Real talk. I always want this thing to be bigger than just using my camera to "capture memories". Because, honestly? BLECH. I hate when photographers say that. So cliche and honestly means nothing.
I want to tell your story. That's it. I want to see and show my clients how they are, where they are, who they are....what gets them excited, shows their actual personality, show what brings light into their eyes.
I celebrate my clients and what they bring to this world. And I want to do so in a creative way that's not just walking through a field of grass and flipping their hair. (While that too can be beautiful, that doesn't tell me a thing about the person in the photo.)
I've found that working with any type of creative (theatre kid, dancer, painter, crafter, gamer, reader, writer, musician, etc) not just lets me get to that place, but really just feeds my soul. I feel like I can relate to creatives. Their spark brightens mine, and together we can make something fun and telling, while still being beautiful, cinematic portraits.
Creative people bring a natural spark to their portraits, and every one of my sessions is customized to reflect that unique energy. I am a pretty intuitive and disarming person, so I can usually get a pretty good read on that - and it's because they feel comfortable around me enough to let me see them for who they are. I absolutely love that part of my job.
A lot of creatives don't like the idea of senior portraits or a photo shoot. But that's because it's all so fake and posey and dressed properly. This is not that. I hate that too. I WILL pose you and tell you what I'm looking for, but it's not stiff or overly proper. You'll wear things that you feel like yourself in, and you'll be treated like an actual person, not a number.
If you're in or around Tulsa and you're looking for photography that feels artistic and expressive, I would love for you to drop me a message to talk about it. My work is mainly with tweens, teens, and senior portraits, of course with a lean toward the creative weirdos. :)
Every session becomes a collaboration, guided by the person's vibe and mixed with my love of storytelling. That allows the process to feel natural rather than forced and "ok, now run through the grass and look at me and giggle". The result is a set of portraits that feels personal, honest, and full of life.
Of course she's a theatre kid. Because duh.
We were planning a themed session but hadn't picked ideas yet. Then I drove by this donut shop in Tulsa and knew exactly what I wanted to do. I know a guy who has this car and it matched the location, so I called him up.
It was a perfect idea for her theatrical background, sugary sweet persona, and the hair/makeup/outfit was the cherry on top. And I found out later that she had been wanting to do a 50s theme anywya, so.....I read the room pretty perfectly! :)
