One thing I always try to do is pull personality out in a session. I always have a better, more creative session when I can read the person and find their little quirks and traits, and it's in those moments of connection that I find the magic of portrait photography. And if I can reach that, I feel I'm not just taking pictures of someone, I'm telling their story.

I've known Teagan since she was like 7, so I know her pretty well, but I really strive toward this in all of my sessions.

This is also why I lean toward working with creatives (dancers, actors, artists, musicians) - they generally keep emotion more surface level and are naturally expressive, so I can read into them really well. Creative people feed my creativity.

Another thing that really helps with sessions is to wear things that really speak to your personality and whims. Teagan here brought some cute, unique things that really pulled out her quirks. I love unusual or uncommon things, whether that's a whole outfit or a fun prop (notice the black cat named Puck! That says a TON about someone!)
