If you look at family portraits online and cringe about holding hands in a field with your kids or snuggling on a blanket in the park, this one's for you.
It's a photo shoot! Have fun with it! It literally doesn't need to be that serious.
You can create any type of session that you want. It can be an adventure, just like anything else. If you don't go to the park and hold hands and run together in a neat row, why are you getting photos of you doing it?
Can you tell I hate that sort of thing?
Anyway. Check out this fun little fam.
I had taken the son's senior portraits and we all got along so well that they wanted to do some family pics before he went off to college. But they wanted to do something with their boat because it was such a big part of their family life.
In talking with the mom, I found out she likes Wes Anderson movies and wanted to do something more old world meets modern. That was all it took. Immediately I had visions of binoculars, maps, and picnic baskets. I was ALL IN for this theme.
I made them a vision board with color palettes, pose ideas, angles to take, and outfit inspo. I made sure to tell them to add in a pop of red to the otufits to tie in the boat color. They did this with a beanie, lobster pins, a scarf, an apple, books, and even a (fake) bloody mary.
When I say it was perfect, it really was.
Once we discuss ideas, I will make you a mood board. By the time your session rolls around you'll know the full vibe we're going for, what you're wearing, what props you'll need (if any), and how/when/where we'll take the photos.
There's no need to be nervous about any of the details because we will have discussed everything well in advance.
We will walk through the creation process together and I'll come up with ideas, tell you what you should wear (style and colors), do location scouting to find the right place, and when we're together, will tell you how to pose and what to do. Right down to the expression on your faces.
Family pictures don't have to be stressful and full of doubt.
Let's plan something. Let's have fun. Let's making something you'll be excited to look at over the years.
